#KawanOwa tahu kan kalau owa dikenal memiliki suara yang keras hingga dapat terdengar sampai sejauh 2 Km? Kok bisa ya owa mengeluarkan suara senyaring itu? Ternyata, teknik vokal owa mirip dengan penyanyi sopran yang biasa bernyanyi di opera loh! 😲

Peneliti jepang, Hiroki Koda bersama koleganya menunjukkan bahwa owa serudung (Hylobates lar) yang diberikan helium – udara yang biasa digunakan untuk balon – dapat bernyanyi dengan suara yang lebih intens dan bernada tinggi. Suara yang dihasilkan dari laring kemudian dimanipulasi oleh owa dengan mengubah bentuk vokal.

Penelitian ini memperlihatkan kemampuan owa dalam mengatur organ bernama SVT (supralaryngeal vocal tract) atau saluran vokal supralaring. Kemampuan ini membantu owa menentukan struktur vokalisasinya sehingga dapat bersuara nyaring.
