Warga Dukung Pemerintah Tutup Pasar Satwa Pemicu Virus Corona

WWF baru-baru ini melakukan survei persepsi publik mengenai hubungan pasar hewan yang menjual satwa liar dengan merebaknya virus corona.

Survei ini melaporkan adanya pemahaman masyarakat terhadap hubungan antara satwa liar dan wabah seperti COVID-19.

Sekitar 5.000 orang responden yang disurvei ini berasal dari Hong Kong, Jepang, Myamnar, Thailand, dan Vietnam.

Berdasarkan temuan itu, 82% responden sangat khawatir dengan wabah COVID-19.

Selain itu, 93% responden mendukung penuh penutupan pasar satwa liar oleh pemerintahnya.

Upaya itu dilihat sebagai langkah pencegahan terjadinya wabah serupa di masa mendatang.

Cina telah mengambil langkah yang patut diapresiasi karena melarang perburuan, perdagangan, dan konsumsi satwa liar”,

ujar Christy Williams, Direktur Regional WWF Asia-Pasifik.

Laporan ini juga melaporkan bahwa 55% responden mendukung penutupan pasar satwa dengan tidak mengkonsumsi daging satwa liar.

Pasar dan rumah makan yang menjual hidangan satwa liar dianggap sebagai potensi penyebaran penyakit zoonosis.

Sejumlah 53% responden akan meyakinkan orang lain untuk tidak membeli dan mengkonsumsi produk satwa liar.

Ditambah lagi, separuh responden dilaporkan akan membagikan konten kampanye edukasi dan perlindungan satwa liar (49%).

Di antara responden yang tetap membeli produk satwa liar di pasar satwa, 41% responden mengatakan jika pasar satwa ditutup, mereka tidak akan membeli produk satwa liar dari sumber lain, menandakan bahwa ada potensi dari efek penutupan itu.

Jika tidak terdapat tindakan yang dilakukan (pasar satwa terbuka masih beroperasi), 8 dari 10 orang responden di 5 pasar satwa mereka sangat khawatir bahwa wabah serupa akan terjadi di masa mendatang.

Menghapus perdagangan ilegal penting untuk memitigasi risiko epidemi zoonosis dan menjamin kesejahteraan manusia.

Dengan penutupan pasar satwa ilegal, dipastikan ada penurunan perdagangan satwa liar ilegal di masa depan.

Sebagai informasi, perdagangan satwa ilegal merupakan ancaman kedua terbesar terhadap keanekaragaman hayati, setelah perusakan habitat.
