Pelihara Owa, Awas Potensi Penyakit Ini!

Memelihara owa saat ini rasanya menjadi tren. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari banyaknya orang yang ingin memelihara di media sosial.

Padahal, owa yang masih berkerabat dengan manusia sangat mungkin menularkan berbagai penyakit.

Penyebaran penyakit dari satwa ke manusia inilah yang disebut zoonosis. Masalahnya, dari 1.407 penyebab penyakit pada manusia, 58% bersifat zoonosis.

Pemelihara owa biasanya memeluk, menggendong, memberi makan, dan membersihkan kotoran owa.

Akibat interaksi ini bisa menularkan kuman penyebab penyakit pada manusia. Dan tak dipungkiri bisa menyebabkan masalah serius.

Berikut beberapa penyakit yang berpotensi disebabkan karena memelihara owa:

Hepatitis B

Awalnya virus Hepatitis B ini ditemukan pada tubuh monyet makaka. Pada monyet makaka, virus ini hanya menyebabkan penyakit ringan.

Namun pada manusia dan primata lainnya (termasuk owa), bahkan bisa menyebabkan masalah serius misalnya kematian.

Hepatitis B juga dapat menyebabkan kerusakan otak parah. Infeksi baru terasa setelah 3 sampai satu bulan.

Tubuh penderita akan merasakan demam dan menggigil, sakit otot, kelelahan, sakit kepala, serta bagian tubuh yang berkontak dengan owa akan melepuh.

Penderita hepatitis B bisa tertular karena digigit, dicakar, atau menyentuh cairan dari owa misalnya liur dan air seni owa.

Penularan Virus Herpes Manusia Tipe-1 ke Owa

Selain tertular dari satwa liar, catatan tentang penularan Virus Herpes Manusia Tipe-1 pada owa serudung hingga menyebabkan kematian telah tercatat pada artikel berjudul Fatal human herpesvirus type 1 infection in a white-handed gibbon (Hylobates lar) ini.

Kesimpulan

Ini membuktikan bahwa penularan dari dan ke satwa liar sangat berpotensi terjadi.

Selain penyakit-penyakit di atas, memelihara owa juga berpotensi tercakar, tergigit, atau terinfeksi penyakit membahayakan lainnya.

Contohnya adalah COVID-19 yang awalnya merebak di Tiongkok di penghujung tahun 2019 dan menjadi pandemi hingga saat ini.

Berdasarkan pemberitaan di media, awal mula virus ini berasal dari kontaminasi di pasar hewan liar di daerah Wuhan.

Makin banyak permintaan terhadap owa sebagai satwa peliharaan dapat meningkatkan potensi penularan penyakit-penyakit lain.

Jadi, daripada terkena penyakit yang disebarkan oleh hewan liar seperti owa lebih baik tidak memeliharanya. Hitung-hitung menjaga kelestariannya, kan?
