Makanan ini Ternyata Disukai Owa Siamang

Kelompok primata yang termasuk Hylobatidae atau owa, diketahui merupakan satwa frugivora, atau yang lebih suka mengonsumsi buah-buahan.

Di banyak laporan penelitian, buah-buahan yang menjadi favorit owa yaitu dari marga Ficus atau buah ara dalam bahasa Indonesia.

Berbeda dengan keluarga Hylobatidae lainnya, owa siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) ternyata lebih menyukai dedaunan dibandingkan buah-buahan.

Selain ara (Ficus spp.), berikut ini beberapa jenis tumbuhan yang dikonsumsi owa siamang:

  • Kiteja (Cinnamomum iners)
  • Gandaria (Bouea macrophylla)
  • Kenaren (Dacryodes rostrata)
  • Sempu air (Dillenia excelsa)
  • Deluak (Grewia paniculata)
  • Aseman (Persicaria chinensis)

Tumbuhan-tumbuhan itu hidup di hutan, dimana biji-bijian yang dikonsumsi oleh owa siamang tumbuh.

Biji yang disebarkan oleh owa siamang ini kemudian tumbuh, dan meregenerasi hutan dengan sendirinya.

Jika owa siamang dipindahkan dari habitat alaminya misalnya diburu dan dipelihara tentunya regenerasi hutan akan terhambat.
