Seekor owa ungko betina (Hylobates agilis) bernama Bela berhasil direhabilitasi oleh Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Yogyakarta dan siap untuk ditranslokasikan ke BKSDA Sumatera Utara pada Rabu, 16 Januari 2025.
Owa ungko sebelumnya diserahkan secara sukarela oleh masyarakat kepada Balai KSDA Yogyakarta pada 17 Oktober 2024. Setelah diterima, owa ungko menjalani proses rehabilitasi di Unit Penyelamatan Satwa (UPS) Bunder untuk memulihkan kondisi fisik dan psikologisnya.
Proses rehabilitasi ini dilakukan untuk memastikan satwa tersebut dapat kembali beradaptasi dengan habitat alaminya. Setelah melalui pemeriksaan kesehatan yang ketat oleh tim dokter hewan dan mendapatkan sertifikat laboratorium dari Balai Besar Veteriner, owa ungko dinyatakan sehat dan siap untuk ditranslokasikan.
Proses Transit dan Translokasi yang Sesuai Standar
Sebelum menuju Sumatera Utara, owa ungko sempat menjalani masa transit di Resort Konservasi Wilayah (RKW) Kulon Progo. Masa transit ini bertujuan memastikan kondisi satwa tetap stabil, terutama untuk memantau kesehatannya. Selain itu, petugas juga memastikan owa ungko mendapatkan kebutuhan pakan yang cukup dan ruang gerak yang memadai, mengingat owa ungko merupakan satwa arboreal yang memerlukan aktivitas fisik di atas pohon.
Proses translokasi ini dilakukan oleh tim gabungan yang terdiri dari Tim Penyelamat Satwa BKSDA Yogyakarta, Sumatran Rescue Alliance (SRA), dan Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP). Translokasi satwa dilakukan dengan memperhatikan standar keamanan dan kenyamanan yang ketat untuk meminimalkan stres pada satwa selama perjalanan panjang.
Peran Undang-Undang dalam Pelestarian Satwa Liar
Langkah translokasi ini dilakukan sesuai dengan peraturan perundang-undangan di Indonesia yang melindungi satwa liar. Owa ungko (Hylobates agilis) termasuk dalam satwa yang dilindungi berdasarkan Undang-Undang Nomor 5 Tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya.
Dalam UU Nomor 5 Tahun 1990, Pasal 21 Ayat (2) secara tegas menyebutkan bahwa setiap orang dilarang untuk menangkap, melukai, membunuh, memelihara, memiliki, memperniagakan, mengangkut, atau memperdagangkan satwa yang dilindungi dalam keadaan hidup atau mati..

Harapannya, owa ungko dapat menjalani tahap akhir rehabilitasi di Sumatera Utara sebelum dilepasliarkan kembali ke habitat alaminya. Langkah ini tidak hanya menjadi bagian dari upaya pelestarian keanekaragaman hayati, tetapi juga bentuk edukasi kepada masyarakat tentang pentingnya melindungi satwa liar dari ancaman perburuan dan perdagangan ilegal.
