Konservasi owa jawa di Hutan Lindung Malabar – Jawa Barat yang berada dalam wilayah kelola Perum Perhutani, merupakan salah satu bentuk tanggung jawab perusahaan milik negara yang mengurusi hutan itu dalam melestarikan satwa kebanggaan Indonesia. Konservasi itu, juga terkait langsung dengan pengelolaan hutan lestari. Bagi Perhutani, hal itu sekaligus menandai, bahwa upaya perlindungan satwa dan lingkungan penting artinya sektor bisnis.
Pandangan itu mengemuka dari Direktur Utama Perum Perhutani Dr. Bambang Sukmananto, ketika bersama Sekretaris Daerah Provinsi Jawa Barat, melepasliarkan sekeluarga owa jawa (Hylobates moloch) yang diprakarsasi Perhutani bersama Yayasan Owa Jawa di hutan lindung Gunung Malabar, Kamis (27/3/2014). Pelepasliaran satu keluarga owa jawa itu didukung oleh Direktorat Jendral Perlindungan Hutan dan Konservasi Alam (PHKA) Kementerian Kehutanan Republik Indonesia.
“Dengan adanya owa jawa, Hutan Lindung Gunung Malabar dapat dikembangkan sebagai salah satu kawasan wisata minat khusus yang mendatangkan manfaat langsung bagi masyarakat di sekitarnya,” ungkap Bambang. Meskipun, menurut Ketua Yayasan Ora Jawa, Dr. Noviar Andayani, upaya konservasi Owa Jawa di tengah pembangunan ekonomi pulau Jawa bukan perkara mudah.
“Diperlukan dukungan semua pihak untuk menyelamatkan primata ini dari kepunahan. Program konservasi ini diharapkan dapat menjadi contoh kemitraan yang kuat antara penggiat konservasi dengan sektor bisnis, pemerintah dan masyarakat” ujar Noviar.
Pada kesempatan itu, satu keluarga owa jawa yang terdiri dari sepasang induk jantan betina dan dua anaknya, dilepasliarkan ke habitat alami kawasan hutan Perhutani di Gunung Puntang Hutan Lindung Gunung Malabar, petak 31b RPH Logawa BKPH Banjaran KPH Bandung Selatan, Kabupaten Bandung, Jawa Barat.
Pelepasan satu keluarga Owa Jawa, ini merupakan kali kedua dilakukan oleh Perhutani dan Yayasan Owa Jawa. Sebelumnya (15/6/13) sepasang owa jawa yang diberinama Kiki dan Sadewa dilepasliarkan di lokasi hutan yang sama. Kali ini, keluarga yang owa jawa yang berhasil dilepasliarkan masing-masing diberinama Bombom (betina), Jowo (jantan), dan kedua anak mereka Yani (betina) dan Yudi (jantan). Kegiatan Perhutani dan Yayasan Owa Jawa, ini merupakan kegiatan belum pernah dilakukan dimanapun sebelumnya untuk satu keluarga Owa Jawa. Pasangan Bombom dan Jowo berasal dari hewan peliharaan yang diserahkan oleh masyarakat dan telah direhabilitasi selama enam tahun di Pusat Penyelamatan dan Rehabilitasi Owa Jawa di Resort Bodogol, Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango. Yani lahir pada tahun 2010, dan Yudi lahir pada tahun 2013.
Owa jawa (Hylobates moloch) termasuk salah satu primata yang paling terancam kepunahan terutama dari hilangnya habitat akibat pembukaan hutan untuk berbagai keperluan. Owa jawa juga kerapkali ditangkap untuk diperjual belikan masyarakat. Organisasi konservasi dunia IUCN memasukkan owa jawa ke dalam kategori species terancam (kepunahan) (EN, endangered species), dengan peluang sebesar 50%. Hewan ini diprediksi akan dapat punah dalam satu dekade mendatang.
Konservasi Owa Jawa, menurut Direktur Utama Perum Perhutani, Bambang Sukmananto merupakan bagian dari upaya mempertahankan kualitas kawasan hutan lindung melalui pengembangan spesies liar. Upaya tersebut diharapkan dapat menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem sumberdaya hutan. “Kawasan Hutan Lindung Gunung Malabar dipilih sebagai tempat pelepasliaran setelah melalui serangkaian survei kelayakan habitat untuk memastikan ketersediaan pohon pakan dan keamanan.”
“Dukungan semua pihak untuk menyelamatkan primata ini dari kepunahan sangat diperlukan. Program konservasi ini dapat menjadi contoh kemitraan yang kuat antara penggiat konservasi dengan sektor bisnis, pemerintah daerah dan masyarakat,” lanjut Bambang. Sekaligus, program ini merupakan contoh public-private partnership yang diyakini menjadi dasar pembangunan hutan berkelanjutan,” jelas Bambang.
Pada acara pelepasliaran satu keluarga owa jawa itu, dilakukan pula penanda-tanganan kerjasama pengamanan habitat dan Satwa di hutan lindung gunung Malabar khusus satwa owa jawa di kawasan hutan Gunung Puntang Perhutani KPH Bandung Selatan, antara Kepala Perhutani Divisi Regional Jawa Barat dengan Pangdam III/Siliwangi Mayjen TNI Dedi Kusnadi Thamim. Sekaligus pelantikan Gibbon Patrol Unit (GPU), tim patrol gabungan dari Perhutani, Yayasan Owa Jawa dan Masyarakat sekitar.
“Diperlukan dukungan semua pihak untuk menyelamatkan primata ini dari kepunahan. Program konservasi ini diharapkan dapat menjadi contoh kemitraan yang kuat antara penggiat konservasi dengan sektor bisnis, pemerintah, dan masyarakat,” ungkap Noviar. Apalagi, menurut Pangdam III Siliwangi Mayjen Dedi Kustiwa Tamim, menjaga dan melestarikan alam penting bagi pelaksanaan pembangunan berkelanjutan. Apalagi, bagi TNI, hutan sangat berperan dalam latihan para prajurit. “Kita berharap penduduk sekitar dapat ikut serta membantu menjaga dan melestarikan daerah sekitar guna hewan-hewan yang dilindungi dapat berkembang biak,” jelas Pangdam.
