Seekor owa kalimantan (Hylobates albibabris) berumur 7 tahun bernama ‘Mona’ dilepasliarkan ke habitatnya di areal HCV Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA) Group di bulan Januari 2023.
Mona dilepaskan ke areal HCV yang di kelola oleh BGA Group dan telah ditetapkan sebagai Kawasan Ekosistem Esensial (KEE) yang disahkan oleh Gubernur Kalimantan Barat pada tahun 2017 silam. Areal ini memiliki fungsi penting dalam menunjang kelangsungan kehidupan melalui upaya konservasi keanekaragaman hayati untuk kesejahteraan.
Pelepasliaran ini dilakukan oleh Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Kalimantan Barat dan BGA Group sebagai upaya penyelamatan dan pelepasliaran satwa yang dilindungi pemerintah.
Regional Head BGA Wilayah Nanga Tayap Jumadi mengatakan, pelepasliaran merupakan salah satu bentuk kerjasama yang terjalin antara BGA Group dan BKSDA.
“Beberapa kegiatan kerjasama lainnya yaitu monitoring keberadaan orang utan, patrioli areal dan juga pelatihan petugas pengelolaan Areal HCV,” kata seperti dilansir dari sawitindonesia.com

Jumadi menjelaskan bahwa awalnya, Mona ditemukan ditemukan di Hutan Kota Akar Bergantung, Kabupaten Ketapang, Kalimantan Barat.
“Dari hasil pemantauan pihak BKSDA Ketapang, Mona memerlukan rumah baru dan juga pasangan untuk kelangsungan hidupnya. Melalui pemeriksaan kesehatan yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya oleh dokter hewan dari IAR (International Animal Rescue) Indonesia, Mona dinyatakan sehat secara fisik dan tingkah lakunya sehingga dapat dilepasliarkan,” ujarnya.
Menurutnya, Owa Kalimantan/Kelempiau termasuk hewan yang dilindungi berdasarkan Peraturan Pemerintah No. 7 Tahun 1999 dan terdaftar dalam CITES Appendiks I yang artinya tidak boleh diperdagangkan dalam bentuk apapun.
“Sebagai hewan endemik, Owa Kalimantan memiliki daerah sebaran yang terbatas, satwa ini mendiami hutan primer dan sekunder di hutan hujan tropis dan hutan rawa gambut yang terdapat di Kalimantan Barat dan Kalimantan Tengah,” Jelas Jumadi.
