Owa Jawa Masih Marak Diperdagangkan Secara Ilegal

Ketua Pengurus Yayasan Owa Jawa Noviar Andayani mengatakan perdagangan gelap owa jawa (Hylobates moloch) saat ini masih marak sehingga mengancam kelestarian satwa endemik tersebut.

“Kalau dilihat perdagangan owa masih marak, kalau dicek di situs jual beli itu masih ada tapi dengan harga yang rendah antara Rp200 ribu sampai Rp300 ribu. Sedih sekali,” kata Noviar Andayani di Jakarta, Selasa.

Dia mengatakan, ancaman kelestarian owa jawa adalah rusaknya habitat mereka yaitu hutan dan perburuan liar. Namun, hingga saat ini tidak ada data yang mencatat jumlah owa jawa yang dipelihara masyarakat.

Selain itu, kembang biak owa jawa juga terbatas yaitu hanya satu anak dalam satu kelahiran sehingga dalam satu kelompok maksimal hanya ada enam individu yang jarang sekali ditemukan. Di samping itu owa juga hidup monogami.

Dia mengatakan, saat ini masih ada 23 owa jawa yang direhabilitasi yang semuanya didapat dari masyarakat atau sitaan hasil tangkapan Badan Konservasi Sumberdaya Alam (BKSDA).

“Tidak ada data yang dimiliki jumlah owa yang dipelihara masyarakat dan secara terbuka di pasar yang diperjualbelikan tidak terlihat. Tapi kita pernah menangkap owa yang akan dijual sampai ke Rusia,” katanya.

Lebih lanjut Noviar mengatakan, populasi owa jawa dalam lima tahun terakhir mengalami peningkatan dilihat dari jumlah kelompok dan di beberapa tempat lebih mudah ditemui.

“Di daerah observasi kita mula-mula dari sekitar tiga kelompok sekarang tujuh kelompok dengan maksimum anggota enam individu, tapi itu jarang sekali kita temukan,” katanya.

Populasi owa jawa saat ini sekitar 5.000 ekor yang tersebar di Gunung Gede Pangrango, Gunung Halimun Salak, Gunung Slamet hingga dataran tinggi Dieng.

Owa jawa adalah satwa sejenis primata yang tidak memiliki ekor, dengan tangan relatif panjang dibandingkan dengan besar tubuhnya. Tangan yang panjang ini untuk berayun dan berpindah di antara dahan-dahan dan ranting pohon yang tinggi, tempat owa beraktivitas sehari-hari.

Owa jawa yang merupakan satwa endemik di Jawa bagian barat memiliki warna tubuh keabu-abuan, dengan sisi atas kepala lebih gelap dan wajah kehitaman.
