Jenis Owa di Sumatera – Mengenal Owa Serudung dan Bilau

Selain owa siamang dan owa ungko, ada dua spesies owa lain yang menghuni Sumatra. Mereka adalah owa serudung dan owa bilau.

Owa Serudung

Warna rambut tubuh owa serudung (Hylobates lar) bervariasi mulai dari hitam hingga krem, sedangkan rambut yang tumbuh di tangan dan kaki berwarna putih. Rambut putih ini juga tumbuh di sekeliling wajah owa serudung.

Owa serudung aktif pada siang hari, sekitar 8,7 jam per hari. Primata ini akan beristirahat sekitar 3 jam sebelum matahari terbenam.

Kelompok owa ini memiliki wilayah kekuasaan atau teritorial. Untuk mempertahankan wilayah teritorial ini, mereka menggunakan great call di setiap tepi wilayahnya.

Subjenis owa serudung yang ada di Indonesia yaitu H. l. vestitus. Subjenis lainnya yaitu owa serudung malaysia (H. l. lar), owa serudung carpenter (H. l. carpenteri), owa serudung bagian tengah (H. l. entelloides), dan owa serudung yunnan (H. l. yunnanensis).

Di Indonesia, owa serudung di Indonesia hanya menghuni bagian utara Pulau Sumatera, misalnya di Taman Nasional Leuser.

Ia dapat ditemukan hingga ketinggian 2.400 mdpl, tetapi lebih sering ditemui di ketinggian 250-500 mdpl.

Owa bilau

Sekilas, owa bilau mirip dengan owa siamang tetapi dengan ukuran tubuh yang lebih kecil. Hal yang mirip secara morfologi yaitu adanya kantung tenggorokan di bawah dagu.

Jumlah populasi owa bilau berdasarkan penelitian terbaru sekitar 17.500 ekor di habitatnya. Angka ini jauh menurun separuhnya jika dibandingkan di tahun 1980-an.

Seperti owa lainnya, owa bilau adalah satwa yang punya wilayah teritorial. Remaja dan pejantan yang sudah dewasa bekerja sama dengan induk jantan untuk mempertahankan wilayah teritorial keluarganya.

Owa bilau adalah primata endemik yang hanya ditemui di Kepulauan Mentawai, Sumatera Barat. Mereka hidu di Pulau Siberut, Sipora, Pagai Utara, dan Pagai Selatan.
